NEW MRI “EXCITE’ TECHNOLOGY PUTS RIVER RADIOLOGY
ON THE FOREFRONT OF MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS

New breakthrough technology dramatically improves Imaging and shortens exam time

Kingston, NY—March, 2006. River Radiology in Kingston NY installed new MRI technology, called EXCITE, that is so advanced it dramatically enhances image quality, shortens exam time, and reduces sensitivity to patient movement. The complete EXCITE technology allows the MRI system to process clinical information significantly faster than other MRI systems installed today.

“This new MRI system strengthens our commitment to providing the most advanced patient care with cost-effective technology,” said Dr. Connors. “EXCITE is the next frontier in MRI technology because it reduces the time of MRI exams, while it also improves image quality,” said Connors. “It also requires fewer breath holds which our patients appreciate. Now, for example, an MRI image of the liver can be gotten in one breath-hold.”

Amongst other benefits, the GE EXCITE technology includes three new features. One, called PROPELLER (periodically rotated overlapping parallel lines with enhanced reconstruction), includes a GE Signa Scanner that eliminates most problems of movement, while delivering the highest-quality medical images in everything from simple MRI scans of bones and joints to advanced studies of the brain, heart, and blood vessels. “The need to sedate fidgety children or adults with Parkinson’s Disease for brain scans is eliminated,” said Dr. Susan Connors, Medical Director of River Radiology. “Everyone can now have a more comfortable MRI experience.”

The second component of EXCITE that improves MRI imaging is called VIBRANT, which stands for Volume Imaging for Breast Assessment. MRI scans of both breasts can be done faster, while providing a better quality image. According to Dr. Connors, “The result is the highest resolution bilateral breast technique available.”

The third new advance is called TRICKS (Time Resolved Imaging of Contrast Kinetics). According to Dr Conners, “This is an intricate method of MRI imaging that gives us the best possible image of the leg and foot blood vessels. Diagnoses can now be made more accurately and earlier.”

Kirk Lawson, executive director of River Radiology said, "We believe this advanced technology is going to become the standard in MRI imaging, and we are pleased to be the first to make it available to area residents.”

River Radiology is a full service imaging center offering high field and open MRI, PET-CT, CT, Ultrasound, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, X-ray, and Nuclear Medicine. River Radiology is open seven days a week. For information call 845.340.4500
